How to run it

  1. 1

Sprint to half court, defensive slide 10 feet, backpedal to the rim, sprint to the corner.

  2. 2

Catch and shoot, then sprint back and repeat the pattern the other direction.

  3. 3

8 cycles; rest 30 seconds between.

  4. 4

    Track time and shooting percentage.

Coaching points

  • Game movement is mixed, not linear — train all of it.
  • Transition between sprint-slide-backpedal with no coasting.
  • Shoot with form despite the legs.

Equipment

Why it works

Linear sprints build engines but not game engines. The nugget: mixing sprint-slide-backpedal-shoot trains the exact multi-directional, stop-start pattern a player actually repeats in a game. In a game, you never just run straight — you sprint, slide, backpedal, and shoot, all in one possession. A kid conditioned on game-sim patterns stays explosive through a whole game, not just the first quarter.
