How to run it

  1. 1

Stand 12 feet from a partner.

  2. 2

Partner chest-passes to you; catch with two hands and immediately step into a triple-threat stance.

  3. 3

Hold the stance for 1 second, then pass back.

  4. 4

    20 reps, alternating who initiates.

Coaching points

  • Catch with eyes on the ball all the way into your hands.
  • Step to meet the pass — don't wait for it to reach you.
  • Triple-threat: ball in the shot pocket, eyes up, ready to shoot/pass/drive.

Equipment

  • Basketball
  • Partner

Why it works

Linking the catch to the triple-threat stance trains the most important offensive habit early. The nugget: every catch in a game is a chance to attack — a player who catches and stands is dead, but a player who catches into triple-threat is instantly a threat to shoot, pass, or drive. Building this habit young means a kid is always 'live' on the catch, which is what creates spacing and keeps defenses honest.
