How to run it

  1. 1

Grab the rebound, pivot to the sideline, chin the ball.

  2. 2

Scan the floor and throw the outlet to a breaking teammate.

  3. 3

Then sprint the lane as the trail — fill the back of the break.

  4. 4

10 reps; vary the outlet side each time.

Coaching points

  • Pivot before you pass — never throw a blind outlet.
  • Chin the ball to protect it through the pivot.
  • Lead the outlet up the floor, then beat them down the lane.

Equipment

  • Outlet
  • Defender

Why it works

A rebounder who sprints the trail lane after the outlet turns defense into offense instantly. The nugget: training the rebound-to-run habit creates fast-break points from defensive boards. In a game, the team that outlets and runs scores easy baskets before the defense sets. A kid who rebounds, outlets, and sprints the lane is a one-person fast break — the most efficient offense in basketball starts with a rebound.
