How to run it

  1. 1

Drive at the defender, hesi to sell a slowdown, then crossover the other way.

  2. 2

Then hesi into a between-the-legs, and hesi into a behind-the-back.

  3. 3

10 reps each combo; defender goes live.

Coaching points

  • Sell the hesi with the eyes and shoulders, not just the ball.
  • Explode out of the counter — no gradual speed-up.
  • The counter beats the defender who reads the first move.

Equipment

  • Basketball
  • Defender

Why it works

Defenders scout the hesi; the counter beats the scout. The nugget: chaining hesi-to-counter trains the setup-to-counter logic that beats defenders who've seen your moves. In a game, a defender who reads the hesi gets beat by the counter — a kid with hesi counters always has an answer. This is how elite ball-handlers keep defenders guessing all game long.
