How to run it

  1. 1

    Stand in a balanced stance, feet shoulder-width, knees soft.

  2. 2

    Raise the ball and freeze at the set point; check Balance (feet square).

  3. 3

    Check Eyes (on target), Elbow (under ball), then shoot and hold the Follow-through.

  4. 4

    Hold the finish for 3 seconds each rep. 15 reps.

Coaching points

  • Freeze at each checkpoint — don't rush through.
  • Follow-through hand should look like a swan's neck.
  • If you wobble on landing, your base was off.

Why it works

Breaking the shot into four named checkpoints gives young kids a simple mental checklist they can self-audit. The nugget: most missed shots at every level trace back to one of these four breaking down — usually balance or follow-through. A kid who can freeze and self-correct B.E.E.F. becomes their own coach in games, fixing a miss on the next shot instead of repeating the same error all game. Self-correction is the skill that separates shooters who improve from shooters who plateau.
