Cone Crossover Series

Drill the crossover and between-the-legs moves against stationary defenders.

Duration
12 min

Equipment

Difficulty
Intermediate

How to run it

  1. 1

Place 5 cones in a line 6 feet apart.

  2. 2

Dribble toward the first cone, crossover low and explode past it.

  3. 3

At the next cone, go between the legs; next cone, behind the back.

  4. 4

Repeat the pattern down and back for 4 reps.

Coaching points

  • Crossover below the knees — low and tight.
  • Explode out of each move with a speed dribble.
  • Drop the hips at each cone; don't slow-dribble through.

Equipment

  • Basketball
  • Cones (5)

Why it works

Cones turn abstract 'do a move' reps into decision-and-execute reps. The nugget: in a game, you don't get to pick your move in advance — you read the defender and react. Each cone demanding a different handle builds the move-to-move transitions a ball-handler needs in traffic. A kid who can chain crossover-to-between-legs-to-behind-back smoothly breaks down defenders who can't anticipate the next move.
