How to run it
- 1
Start on the left side; do 10 left-hand layups off the correct foot.
- 2
Then 10 from the right side with the right hand.
- 3
Add speed: dribble from the top and finish with the weak hand in 3 seconds.
- 4
Track makes; the goal is weak-hand makes matching strong-hand makes.
Coaching points
- Jump off the opposite foot from the shooting hand.
- Aim for the corner of the square every time.
- Don't bring the ball down — keep it high and protected.

Why it works
Most middle-schoolers have one good layup hand and one they avoid. The nugget: defenses know which hand you favor and will force you to the other — a one-handed finisher gets stopped every time. Equalizing the weak hand turns a predictable player into an unpredictable one. The kid who can finish with either hand on either side becomes unguardable in the lane, because the defense can't funnel them anywhere.
