Difficulty
Intermediate

How to run it

  1. 1

Dribble hard from the top toward a cone (defender) at the elbow.

  2. 2

Stop on a dime, gather, and pull up for a jumper.

  3. 3

Do 10 from each elbow and 10 from each wing.

  4. 4

Track makes; the pull-up is a 45%+ shot when grooved.

Coaching points

  • Stop hard and gather — the legs power the pull-up.
  • Get square to the rim before you release.
  • The pull-up beats the defender who sags off you.

Why it works

Young drivers either go all the way to the rim or don't shoot. The nugget: the pull-up is the shot that punishes a defender who backs off to take away the drive — it's the in-between game that every great scorer needs. A kid who can pull up stops being one-dimensional (drive or pass) and becomes a three-level threat: layup, pull-up, and three. Defenses can't take away all three.
